The UK Energy Research Centre's mission is to be the UK's pre-eminent centre of research, and source of authoritative information and leadership, on sustainable energy systems. It was established in 2004 following a recommendation from the 2002 review of energy initiated by Sir David King, the UK Government's Chief Scientific Advisor. |

school of engineering at the University of Northumbria
at Newcastle, which incorporates the Northumbria Photovoltaics
Applications Centre (NPAC), established in 1984 to provide
an expert research and consultancy service in photovoltaics.
In 1994, the UK's first photovoltaic facade, rated at
39.5 kWp, was installed on Northumberland Building on
the main University campus. NPAC also has a Photovoltaic
Cell Test Facility, established via funding from the Department
of Trade and Industry, which includes two Class A terrestrial
solar simulators. |

Imperial
College Centre for Energy Policy & Technology was
formed to study technologies and policies on energy and
environment. It is unique in the UK and internationally
and brings three long-standing strengths of the College
to bear on modern energy and environmental problems: the
science and technology of all aspects of energy production,
use and pollution abatement; the analysis of the environmental
impact of energy-related pollution on ecosystems and human
health; the economic, legal and institutional aspects
of energy and environmental policies. |

The
Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST)
is based at Loughborough University. The Centre's remit
is to advance renewable energy technology so as to provide
substantial and benign energy options for present and
future generations. The PV Systems Research Group's activities
currently focus on the performance of photovoltaics from
a systems perspective - in particular thin-film PV and
its integration into buildings. |
